CCID Has Iftar Together

Iftar is one of the religious observances of Ramadan and is often done as a community, with people gathering to break their fast together.

IMG_9140 Today, all the CCID Scholars, friends, and many of the mentor families, came together for a unique Iftar celebration.

We introduced the American custom of a “progressive dinner”.  The students in each flat made part of the evening’s events.  We then went from flat to flat to enjoy a complete meal.

Also there was a cooking class with some of the scholars and mentor partners teaching some cooking techniques.

IMG_9104Starting with sunset, we all convened for traditional snacks, at the first apartment.  Afterwards, those observing Ramadan, had time for prayer while the others went to the next flat to put the finishing touches on the main courses.

After everyone arrived there, we enjoyed a great dinner.

IMG_9137 We then moved to the next flat for home made deserts.  This was also a great time to learn the ovens here have the temperatures marked in  Fahrenheit.  The desert was unbelievable.  There are some professional cooks here!

Finally we moved to the last flat for some delicious tea and a few more sweets.

Thanks to all the scholars who really worked to prepare foods and offered their apartments for the dinner.  Thanks to the friendship partners and others who were able to attend.
