Courts, Food, and Music

Well, it was another outstanding tour of Houston area sights and sounds.

IMG00271 Thanks to the efforts of one of our partner families we arranged a “behind the scene” tours of the Harris County courts downtown.

Two of the judges spent a great bit of time discussing the court system.  It was quite an experience for all of us seeing how the legal process works.

We were guests of the Honorable William C. McCulloch, Judge Probate Court #4 and the Honorable Al Bennett , Judge 61st District Court.  They both gave an interesting, entertaining, and educational talk.  A special thanks to both of them and their courts.

IMG00289 We also had a special treat.  While we were at the court building, a television camera crew was there to record the results of one of the cases.

Since they had some time, they took some time to interview us and our students.  So maybe sometime Channel 13 will show some the video.  That was fun.

Some of then had a chance to speak briefly with Honorable Judy Warne, 257th Family Court who told us about issues related to divorce and her advice on staying married.

But we just kept going…  Some of us gathered at  the Spaghetti Warehouse in the old historic building near Allen’s Landing.  The food was great and we all enjoyed talking about differences in our cultures.  We laughed and laughed and learned a lot too.

After dinner we took off for a special evening music performance.  Thanks again to one of our friendship partners, we had tickets to a special performance by Cynthia Clawson.

ClawsonShe is an award winning singer, song writer, and musician.  Cynthia has won a Grammy and is a five time Dove Award winner for her work as a song writer, vocal artist, and musician.  Billboard Magazine calls her “The most awesome voice in gospel music.”  Her career has spanned over four decades with 22 recordings to her credit. It was an impressive performance.

We offer our special thanks to our friends who provided the tickets to the concert and arranged the court tours.  Also to the honorable judges and their courts who took time from their busy schedules to meet with us.

See you at our next event.
