May Music Fest

May 15th, 2009

IMG_4900Well with summer almost here, and finals just about done.  This Friday was a great time to relax and enjoy some music and food at the May Music Fest.  This was the first of the music events in the Fall Creek subdivision.

IMG_4898Everyone had a chance to swim if they got there early.  But the real fun started with the music.  We were entertained by the “Veterans of Classic Rock” who provided a wide range of music for the event.

Thanks to our friendship partners for bringing the food, drinks, and chairs.  It was a beautiful evening with a nice breeze to cool us from a hot day.

IMG_4903A special note of appreciation to Candy for inviting us and all her work to get this together.

Great to see everyone and hope to see you at the next event.

International Coffee Haus

Easter Traditions

April 14th, 2009

Well it was great to have all our International Coffee Haus friends over to celebrate Easter.  It is one of the important holidays of the year bringing together extended family and friends.

As is the custom with just about any holiday, food is involved.  We had the traditional Easter candies including lots of chocolate, and the famous marshmallow peeps.  IMG_4610

As is the tradition, we had the kids out in the back looking in the yard for Easter eggs and candies left by the “Easter Bunny”.

For the dinner we had lamb which is generally associated with the season.  Thanks to everyone who brought a dish to share and helped make the dinner just perfect.

We had two great presentations about the meaning of Easter and all IMG_4605the events the lead up to the great Easter Sunday celebrations.

And for the “adults” we had a contest to see who could move the small “smarty” candies from one glass to another.  Using a straw.  It is a lot harder than you think.IMG_4642

Thanks again, and hope to see everyone at our next International Coffee Haus event.

Texas Independence Day BBQ

March 1st, 2009

What a fine time we had at the Texas Independence Day BBQ Coffee Haus.

img_3243_webThere were 69 people from 15 different countries and a genuine Cowboy Poet.  We had delicious BBQ donated by Valley Ranch Restaurant on HW 249 and the generous Kuecher Family.

To top off the great meal many guests brought desserts and sweets for us to share.  There were many, many different and unusual tasty treats to try.

The distinguished Mr. Lloyd Shelby preformed some of his original poetry and the crowd was spellbound.   We had a sing along and learned when to clap and when to sing the words to Deep in the Heart of Texas!  It was fun to be a little silly.img_3266_web

Bernie Luksich kindly prepared souvenir CDs with popular Texas tunes for our int’l guests to take home and share with their families.  Our friends at The Get Together NW donated picture frames to give as door prizes to the lucky student winners.   One winning student from Brazil was able to correctly tell the meaning to the American Idiom “rubbernecking” to win his prize.

People made new friends, exchanged e-mail addresses, made future plans to meet for lunch and we heard many say they would see us on Face Book.  If you want to see some of the pictures just click here.

img_3271_edited-1_webThank you to Jean Kuecher for hosting us in their lovely home.

We look forward to next time.  “Happy Trails to You Until We Meet Again”
